Rangoli is a very beautiful human art. The actual name of rangoli is ‘Rangavali’. The word ‘rang’ means color and ‘vali’ means line. So Rangavali means ‘line of colors’. Rangoli is famous in all around the country. In Kerala rangoli is known as a name of Muggulu. Kerala rangoli is also called as rangoli kolam. Kerala rangoli is very famous during spiritual or divine celebrations in the state. During festivals or wedding ceremonies women draw spiritual deisigns of rangoli kolam at entrance floor of their houses. They also design various ritual pictures on walls during festivals.
Diwali celebration is one of most fabulous festival in Kerala. This festival of diwali is a ritual occasion to draw various rangoli figures on doorsteps of houses. They draw these designs of rangoli patterns with enthusiasm and ritual feelings. They use rice grains, white powder, pencils etc. to draw rangoli patterns. Diwali is one of most beautiful celebration in Kerala which is famous for two things; one is lighting and second is rangoli. Rangoli making is an art which no requirement of any practice or expertise. It is based on imagination of one’s mind. Onam festival in Kerala is also famous for this melodious human art. During these festivals women make various ritual or spiritual signs in temples and houses.
